6 days of kitchen duty. I was on dinner shift, 4-9pm-ish
Chilled vibe throughout shift.
One head chef directed the shift and gave us (5/6 people) tasks to prepare the meal.
We had a break in middle of shift to calm ourselves and check in.
Cooking for sometimes 50 and sometimes 190 people.
Kitchen group met at 2.30 pm for organisational stuff and chats.
One day of breakfast duty, 630-800am. Ugh… But incredible calm around and mist on Lake pre-dawn, fascinating.
Kitchen team had a group session on Thursday, where we delved deep into personal issues. The trust and support from this community is so strong.
Delicious and diverse healthy food. Vegan mostly. They aim to eat regionally, but are not fully there yet. Though 50 people in the Solar Village are experimenting with total regional sufficiency for all their needs. Brave!
We recycle leftovers (if any) from day before, mostly into delicious burgers.
Supportive kitchen buddies.
Kitchen can’t take a break. All work Sunday. Though each gets one day off a week.
Kitchen perks: snacks and sometimes cake!
All in all, a great week, good fun, great people, and lots of support and insight. I’d recommend it.
Brian
PS we also did a laughter session. Fun!
