We left Tamera on Sunday 1st May & took 3 lovely leisurely days to drive to Sunseed eco-village in the village of Los Molinos Rio Del Agua, Andalusia, Spain.
We stopped in a hotel in a city called Heuvla, Portugal, then a roadstop hotel mid Spain, then last night we stayed in an amazing beach side hotel in Mojacar on the south east coast only 30 mins from Sunseed. We really enjoyed being by the sea! 🙂
Upon arrival, we got a speedy intro to Sunseed and started to settle in (sleeping & reading & chatting to some lovely people)!
Turns out this place is not the ecovillage we were expecting. A number of years ago a decision was made that nobody could stay in the project for more than 3 years. Findhorn and Tamera had all ages from newborn to aging. Here we are surrounded by people mostly our age. So its more like a sustainable-living research hostel than an ecovillage. As our goal for this trip was to try and find a place to live, Brian was a little disappointed.
Their website is out-of-date, many projects are left unfinished and there are no elders, or anyone with an experience of how things run here longer than a couple of years. This results in constantly shifting social and work dynamics, and no institutionalised hierarchy.
Nonetheless, Sunseed lives on, and manages some fantastic solutions to global and local problems. Breakfast is at 07.15, and job allocation at 08.00. The workday starts shortly after at around 08.30 and goes til 1pm, with lunch at 2pm (and daily announcements), siesta from 3-5, and final shift of the day from 5pm – 8pm, at which point dinner is served. Its a long day, but as short term volunteers we are only obliged to work the morning shift.
Next post will have a couple of stories of our time here, it’s been an interesting time 🙂
Little or no internet in Amalfi hence my lack of comments. I’m really enjoying following your blog (apart from the snake bit) so keep at it. I will be interested to hear why there is a 3-year limit at Sunseed; maybe you guys are there to start the change back to a proper ecovillage again? Love to you both and all the gang there xx
