Carbon Footprint

Total CO2 for Travel: 2881kg CO2 Part of our desire to live in an eco-village is to mitigate (and maybe even repair) the damage we are causing to the environment. Our trip has caused emissions that have gone into the atmosphere, that would otherwise not if we didn’t take this trip. These are primarily due to travel. We are not counting food, as we would be eating anyway, and our diet did not significantly change. Driving – 1237 kg CO2. According to our car’s specs we emit 0.198kg CO2 per km travelled….

Leaving Damanhur and next steps…

Future temple of the “popolo spirituale” So Damanhur have a new even bigger temple planned, and have permission to build it. This is to unite all the esoteric/spiritual/magical peoples, tribes and shamans of the world, so that their culture, knowledge and languages are not lost, and so they can support each other. It is set to cost over 40 million euro and will host a hotel, conference spaces, largest library in the world consisting of esoteric works, an outdoor ampitheatre and spaces where the people’s cultures are displayed in a…

Damanhur Temples, Structure & Money

Damanhur Temples, Structure & Money

Special time. Turns out we arrived at a pretty special time in Damanhur. The first Monday was their ‘Oracle’ ceremony, and on Saturday was a ceremony of the union for the community,  and Sunday was the birthday of the founder which they celebrate as the birthday of the community. As everything was in Italian, we didn’t really get a full experience of what was going on, and actually ended up being quite bored. But it was nice to see some of their culture alive in ceremony. Also Rachael’s dad John’s 60th…

Damanhur – Art Day, Forest Sleepover and Epic Risk

Damanhur – Art Day, Forest Sleepover and Epic Risk

Art Day One of our days was dedicated to making art. Individual and collective art creation is a very important part of Damanhur’s history and culture. We made clay sculptures on the theme ‘the others and me’ after a short meditation. And we also made a communal painting. Initially we worked on our own piece of the paper and then worked on what others had been doing. It really brought life to the saying ‘you can learn more about someone in 5 minutes of play than 5 hours of conversation’ We…

Damjl nucleos: the heart of Damanhur

Damjl nucleos: the heart of Damanhur

Damjl Brian & I stayed in Damjl. It is the original settlement, & there are a lot of sacred spaces & magical adventures to be had here!   Falco Tarassaco Damanhur’s spiritual leader Falco Tarassaco channelled lots of information from past lives & other dimensions which guided the community.   Spirals I’m not exactly clear on the full function & integration of spirals into their spiritual vision, but it creates energy, & different spirals are charged for helping with particular problems, eg. Unity, feminine, masculine, changing logic, communication etc. Clarity…

Damanhur nucleos 2 by rach

Damanhur nucleos 2 by rach

Magilla This was the second nucleo we visited. A person from our group stayed here. We had a sharing about ourselves the first day too & we found out they had a really traumatic abusive life. Unfortunately they really clashed with people in the group & the program wasn’t set up to support these types of problems, so the decision was made for them to drop out near the end, but not before we’d gone through a lot.   Exclusion/Inclusion & Communication The theme of inclusion & exclusion is really…

Damanhur nucleos 1 by rach

Brian & I went to Damanhur to participate in their 10 day “Amine” program. I’m still not sure what it means but they described it as something more than for tourists & a little more insight to life there. So I can say Damanhur is completely different from Tamera & Sunseed! It is situated in the Italian Alps & it is way bigger than the others, with around 600 residents!   To accommodate this they have created several different “nucleos”. On the first day we did a tour round some…

Denia, Boat, and Pisa

Denia, Boat, and Pisa

Denia As previously mentioned,  we got to stay with George for two nights after we left Sunseed on Monday. He has an apartment in Denia which he is kitting out entirely from the local thrift shops. By this stage he’s a master of the bargain. I’ll let the pictures say  the rest. Get a good look at some very clever repurposing and upcyclying.     The Boat George also gave  us the idea to get the boat to Italy. After weighing up the cost of ferry vs driving, we found…

Sunseed: Rach: chutney, food, garden, shampoo

Sunseed: Rach: chutney, food, garden, shampoo

Very quickly Brian & I realized Sunseed would not be somewhere we’d settle because no one is allowed to stay for more than 3 years! It is a very transient community. They say it’s so no hierarchy develops so people are equal. I admire this idea but equally I believe hierarchy does exist there simply with the different types of volunteers, co-ordinators, who are there for at least a year, long term volunteers (6 months) & then short term volunteers. Also i wonder can there be hierarchy and equality at…
