Only one thing noteworthy at the start of this adventure. Before that some pictures to convince my parents that I’m still alive…
I thought France was meant to have better weather…
It was a quiet crossing. I couldn’t quite work up the courage to chat with anyone so left the boat feeling lonely and withdrawn.
And the beautiful thing that happened…
… It’s not that wine is so cheap (but, wow), it’s where I’m staying tonight.
It’s my first time driving in France, so naturally my parents are anxious. My dad was pushing for me to take it easy on the first night and stay in a hotel 2 hours South of Cherbourg. To save money, I bought a car seat airbed and had planned to sleep in the car. Conflict. But then…
After starting this blog on Wednesday evening, I get a message from a friend of mine from the juggling community on Thursday morning. He just so happens to be staying in North France for a while. He said to drop in on my way by, it’s exactly on my route South, and exactly 2 hours from Cherbourg.
I love it.
Another example of the power of community and of things falling into place when you put your dream out there and take action.
So it’s Friday evening as I write amidst the peace and quiet of rural Romagny, after a lovely meal with his wife and kids (and him), wine, chats about life and peace, and a few games of pool to top it off.
17 hours of driving ahead of me to get to Tamera by Sunday evening. Better rest up…
Brian
